Arapahoe County is a county located in the state of Colorado. As of the 2010 census, the population was 572,003, making it the third-most populous county in Colorado. The county seat is Littleton and the most populous city is Aurora. The county is named for the Arapaho Native American tribe that once lived in the region.

Arapahoe County is part of the Denver-Aurora-Lakewood, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Arapahoe County Sherrif

The Arapahoe County Sheriffs Office (ACSO) provides general-service law enforcement to unincorporated areas of Arapahoe County, serving a population of approximately 294,000. ACSO provides police coverage for the City of Englewood, the Towns of Parker and Sheridan, and other municipalities in Arapahoe County.

With an operating budget in 2012 of $62 million, ACSO has over 600 employees: 210 Patrol deputies and sergeants, 100 diversion deputies and sergeants, 50 D.A.R.E deputies and sergeants, 100 School Resource deputies and sergeants, 150 detectives, 50 Civil Process servers, 106 Professional Standards investigators, 120 Security staff members that provide security for the courts and judicial functions at all levels from Municipal to State Supreme Court.

ACSO has several divisions/sections: Administration Division, Corrections Division (jail and pretrial services), District/County Attorneys (includes diversion) Operations Division, Patrol Division, Special Operations Division, and Executive Security Detail.

Public School Districts

The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office is the principal law enforcement agency serving Arapahoe County. It provides police protection to the unincorporated areas of Arapahoe County as well as incorporated cities within the county that have contracted with the agency for law enforcement services (known as “contract cities”, such as Cherry Hills Village, Lone Tree, and Englewood). The agency also patrols the campus of Arapahoe Community College.
